Transportation for Seniors (T4S) Hackathon
January 13 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Improve WNC seniors’ quality of life through access to transportation by developing tech solution specifications at the UniteWNC—Silver to Gold T4S Hackathon.
Meet the Geeks, Code for Asheville, and UniteWNC are calling on a range of technical experts (from front-end developers, to UI/UX, to database developers, to marketers, to project managers, to solutions architects, to security experts, etc) to join end-used (e.g., Seniors), non-profits (AARP, DayStay Adult Care Care Partners Adult Care), and governments (Asheville City, Buncombe County Council on Aging, Madison County) for an afternoon of creative solutioning.
The goal of the hackathon is to create epic user stories, initial specifications and high-level design for at least 5 Minimum Viable Products (MVP) which will bring greater transportation access to seniors across our region. UniteWNC will seek funding after the hackathon to develop at least one of the MVPs pitched at the end of the hackathon. You can chose to continue to be involved in creating the solution or you can lend your expertise during the three hours and then step back. The main thing is to come with a collaborative and creative mindset.
Facilitators will help set the stage for attendees to self-organize into at least five teams with a good mix of technical experts, senior end users, and subject matter experts to design their solutions to pitch. Attendees are encouraged to pre-read the Proceedings from the Hackathon Planning Meeting as a springboard to the thinking and collaboration at the hackathon. The planning meeting generated multiple user voices and five areas of emphasis for the potential solutions:
1. Education and PR
2. Coordinating Services / Connecting Systems
3. Using Available Idle Resources
4. Creating Zones of Service
5. Creating Volunteer Voucher System
